Description
In this plein-air painting session, we will explore painting from direct observation with the focus on the values and simplifying shapes. We will be working on improving oil painting skills by painting various subjects that pose different visual problems:
- Linear perspective and its application in landscape painting
- Value and color
- Brushstrokes and gesture
Each session, we are going to meet at a different location.
Materials:
- Oil paint: Titanium white, ivory black, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, raw umber, cadmium yellow light, cadmium yellow medium, cadmium red light, cadmium red medium, cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, viridian green, sap green
- Medium: walnut oil, Gamsol, linseed oil
- Substrate: canvas panels, stretched canvas, primed wood panels, Arches oil painting paper sizes: 9”x 12”, 10” x 10”, 12” x 16”(you can choose one type and size that you prefer)
- Brushes: combination of filberts and flats sizes 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, two painting knives- one with a sharp edge, one with a rounded edge
- Palette: wooden or glass palette preferably with a lid
- Easel: French plein-air easel, or tripod with a detachable painting box
- Other: Viva paper towels, protective painting gloves (nitrile, or cotton), olive oil or master oil painting brushes cleaning soap, sun hat, sun umbrella, tool box for storing art supplies or plein-air painting back pack or bag, picnic chair
